Intensive Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program (IDATP)

Your use of drugs or alcohol means you risk reoffending.

The Intensive Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program (IDATP) will help you to tackle your drug or alcohol use and related offending. You will learn coping skills, how to think about problems in new ways and techniques for living a clean life. You can only do IDATP in custody.

If you are an IDATP graduate then you can do IDATP Maintenance in the community or in custody. The IDATP Reintegration Team run maintenance groups and can help to put you in contact with services that give you the support and help for housing, education, employment, health and continued Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) treatment and addiction recovery.

If you have been released into the community, contact the correctional centre where you completed IDATP and ask for the IDATP Reintegration Team.

Who is IDATP for?

You should complete IDATP if your use of drugs or alcohol puts you at risk of reoffending.

Why should I complete IDATP?

IDATP can support your recovery from a drug/alcohol addiction.

When you complete IDATP you will learn new skills and ways of behaving. You will learn how to manage problems in new ways and practice techniques for living a different way of life.

How long is the program?

IDATP has multiple phases. The length of time depends on how long it takes each person to go through each phase. The program usually takes between 6 and 8 months.
